Ladies and gentlemen (and all those in between), allow me to introduce to you The Hood Internet, a Chicago-based indie duo that churns out wicked mashups like the Octomom churns out babies. Sorry to put that image in your head, but it’s the best analogy I could think of on the spot.
Anyway, I’ve been getting a lot more into The Hood’s (free!) work ever since I first came across their Grizzly Bear / Dead Prez mashup Two Weeks of Hip Hop, which is so catchy I’ve been playing it almost as many times as the original.
So on a chance visit to their site this morning, I discovered that a week ago they had posted a mod of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean as a tribute to the late King of Pop… with instrumentation by the awe-inspiring Ratatat, no less. Suffice to say it’s an unusual combination, but if you’re a fan of both sets of artists this is sure to be a treat for your ears:

Also, whilst skimming through the site’s front page I came across another mashup of considerable note, which you can see posted in video form below. No doubt you’ll be able to tell what the backing soundtrack is from the screenshot alone, but give it a play and you’ll be surprised how well it actually fits.
haha, this is great! catchy, and totally strange.
hahahaha love the billie jean with ra@@@
