After seeing yet another newspaper article on Michael Jackson in today’s copy of The Straits Times, my thoughts started drifting to another legendary entertainer who died around the same time as MJ last year: George Carlin. Carlin was one of the greatest comedians who ever lived, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to attend one of his live shows last May, merely a month before he passed away — also due to heart failure, interestingly enough.
What’s also interesting is that in Carlin’s 2004 comedy book When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops?, there’s an entire passage dedicated to his thoughts on Jackson’s showmanship, citing several other famous performers and listing reasons why ‘Jacko Beats ‘Em All’. While I sadly left my copy of Pork Chops in the States, thankfully someone else has posted a Youtube video combining Carlin reading the bit from his audiobook, complete with according imagery to boot.
(Some potty language involved… but that’s not gonna stop you, is it?)
You tell ‘em, George… you tell ‘em.
That was great! Never heard of Mr. Carlin before.
I think you’d really like him. Here’s a sample bit from one of his shows here. Skip to about 1:25, that’s when it really kicks in :D
Hahahah. That one was golden. =D
